Si Es Cine Podcast
Michael Lozano and Brittany Reyes took a Latino politics class together, learned about the evil corruptions in the fruit industry, and talked a lot about the Walking Dead. All these years later, they’re still just a couple of kids wanting to learn about their roots and nerd out on film. Sometimes those two intertwine. This is yet another movie podcast, but here they talk about the importance of stories and how they’ve made us who we are today.

Wednesday Nov 15, 2023
We're sensing a theme here... Si Es Cine is back with a new episode!
We're staying within John Carpenter's filmography, looking back at 1994's In The Mouth of Madness.
A horror/fantasy movie that brings the Carpenter staples while engrossing us in an H.P. Lovecraft-type world.
The film follows John Trent (Sam Neill), an insurance investigator, who goes searching for horror novelist Sutter Cane (essentially Stephen King), after he goes missing and his books start to have a "maddening" effect on some of those who read it.

As we kick off Hispanic Heritage Month, we felt that it was only fair to ring it in with Pixar's Coco.
If you couldn't tell from the name of our podcast or our last names, this is a particular special time for us to reflect on our own Latin heritage and how its shaped us into who we are today.
It was a senior level Latino Politics class, at the University of North Texas, that initially connected the two of us in 2016.
In this spoiler-heavy discussion, we talk about our personal connections to this 2017 film and why it does such a wonderful job at expressing how family is such an integral part to the Hispanic/Latin community.
Be warned, it's an emotional episode...

The Birdcage ages like fine wine (without tannins)
Wednesday Aug 16, 2023
Wednesday Aug 16, 2023
In a world filled with parody and chaos, Mike Nichol's The Birdcage (1996) provides us with a comedy that has aged like fine wine.
The Birdcage provides some tasteful and respectful LGBTQ+ representation, something that was sorely lacking in the 90s and is still not where it should be in the 2020s.
The powerhouse performances of Nathan Lane and the late-great Robin Williams inject some wonderful moments of levity, heart, and humor.
Si Es Cine's Brittany Reyes and Michael Lozano bring all the spoiler discussions in this newest episode.
